let’s say you and a group of friends want to play a game of Texas Hold’em, which is one of the most popular variations of poker.

  1. Understand the game: Texas Hold’em is a game that involves betting and hand rankings. Each player is dealt two hole cards, which are kept hidden from other players, and the objective is to make the best possible five-card hand using the community cards on the table and the player’s own hole cards.
  2. Learn the hand rankings: The hand rankings for Texas Hold’em are the same as for regular poker (royal flush, straight flush, four of a kind, full house, flush, straight, three of a kind, two pair, one pair, and high card).
  3. Know the different betting rounds: In Texas Hold’em, there are four betting rounds: pre-flop, flop, turn, and river.
  4. Understand the role of the dealer and the blinds: The dealer position rotates clockwise among the players, with the player to the left of the dealer posting the small blind and the player to their left posting the big blind.
  5. Deal the cards: The dealer shuffles the deck and deals two hole cards face down to each player.
  6. Place bets: The first betting round begins with the player to the left of the big blind. They can either call the big blind (match the amount), raise (increase the amount), or fold (give up their hand). This continues clockwise around the table until all players have either folded or put in the same amount of chips.
  7. See the flop: The dealer deals three community cards face up on the table. These cards are available to all players to use in combination with their hole cards to make a hand.
  8. Place bets: The second betting round begins with the player to the left of the dealer. They can again choose to call, raise, or fold.
  9. See the turn: The dealer deals one more community card face up on the table.
  10. Place bets: The third betting round begins with the player to the left of the dealer. They can again choose to call, raise, or fold.
  11. See the river: The dealer deals the final community card face up on the table.
  12. Place bets: The final betting round begins with the player to the left of the dealer. They can again choose to call, raise, or fold.
  13. Showdown: If there are still players in the game after the final betting round, a showdown occurs. Players reveal their hole cards and the best hand wins the pot.
